CBG was first isolated in 1964 by Raphael Mechoulam and Yehiel Gaoni, the same two chemists who mapped most of the cannabis plant. The first double blind, placebo controlled human trial, published in 2024. That is a sixty year gap between discovery and real clinical testing, and it tells you most of what you need to know about where CBG sits right now.
If you have looked at the label on our Relief X capsules and wondered why there is as much CBG in the bottle as there is CBD, here is the answer.
CBG Is The Parent Cannabinoid
Every cannabinoid in a hemp plant starts in the same place. The plant produces cannabigerolic acid, or CBGA, and enzymes convert that acid into the precursors of CBD, THC, and CBC. Any CBGA the enzymes leave alone becomes CBG. Researchers sometimes call it the mother of all cannabinoids for exactly that reason.
The catch is in the word “whatever.” The plant’s enzymes spend nearly all of that CBGA building other cannabinoids, so a mature plant holds very little CBG at harvest. That scarcity is why CBG costs more per milligram than CBD, and why you almost never see it appear in a product by accident. When CBG shows up on a label in a meaningful amount, someone put it there on purpose.
What The Research Actually Says
The honest answer is that CBG research is early, and we would rather tell you that than oversell it.
The first patient survey on CBG was published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research in 2022. Russo and colleagues surveyed 127 people using CBG predominant products and found they were using it across roughly thirty different conditions. Most respondents reported greater perceived benefit than from conventional medication, with a mild side effect profile and negligible withdrawal. The authors were direct about the limits of that finding. A survey captures what people report, not what a controlled trial proves, and they close by calling for randomized controlled trials.
Two years later, some of that arrived. A double blind, placebo controlled crossover trial published in Scientific Reports tested a 20mg oral dose of CBG in healthy adults and measured a reduction in self reported stress and anxiety compared with placebo. It is one trial in healthy adults, not a body of evidence, and the researchers themselves opened the paper by criticizing how much of the minor cannabinoid market runs on unsubstantiated claims.
So the state of play is this. CBG is non intoxicating, it has a well documented chemistry, it has one promising controlled human trial and a growing set of preclinical work, and it does not yet have the depth of research that CBD has. Anyone telling you more than that is filling in blanks.
Why Is It In Relief X
Relief X carries 750mg of CBD and 750mg of CBG per bottle, which works out to 25mg of each per capsule across 30 capsules. That one to one ratio is the formulation decision worth understanding. It is not CBD with a trace of something else added for the label. It is an even split.
CBG is also not the only thing in the capsule. The formula includes acai berry extract, Curcumin C3 Complex, Bioperine, glucosamine, and chondroitin. Curcumin C3 Complex is a standardized turmeric extract. Bioperine, a black pepper extract, helps the body absorb it, since curcumin on its own absorbs poorly. Glucosamine and chondroitin are the two compounds most people already recognize from the joint supplement aisle.
That combination is what makes Relief X different from everything else we make. Every other product in our line is hemp extract and a carrier. This one is a formulated blend, and the cannabinoid ratio is only part of it.
How To Verify The CBG You Are Paying For
Because CBG is expensive, it is also the cannabinoid most likely to be listed generously and delivered thinly. The only way to check is the batch report.
Every product we make has a third party certificate of analysis posted publicly, and the cannabinoid panel on that report breaks out CBG as its own line item. Compare that number against what the label claims. If a brand cannot show you a current report with CBG itemized, you are taking their word for it.
