NOLAN’S STORY

Nolan Pitti, a former Specialist in the U.S. military, grew up playing sports in the suburbs of Los Angeles. He made a living working odd jobs, but it was military service that really captured his attention. Nolan enlisted in 2010 at the age of 24 and was stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana before deploying to Afghanistan later that year.

Nine months into his deployment Nolan’s convoy was transporting materials for a construction project when their vehicle rolled over a roadside bomb.

“The last thing I remember is approaching a checkpoint and seeing the Afghani military washing their uniforms in a river. The next thing I know, we woke up underneath the truck to gunshots and people screaming.”

Nolan suffered a traumatic brain injury and had to have surgery to repair the broken bones in his face. Doctors prescribed him a combination of opioids to deal with the pain but the prescriptions provided little relief. He quickly became addicted and fell into a vicious cycle of debilitating withdrawals.

After years of struggling, Nolan finally decided to get help. He started seeing a therapist a couple times a week, stopped using prescription medications and found relief with CBD.

Today, Nolan works as a Product Manager at Innovative Extracts. He’s passionate about life again and enjoys helping others find solutions to alleviate their pain.

“When I tell customers about my routine they are a little skeptical at first, but then I share how CBD helps with my pain, anxiety, and PTSD, and 90% of the recommendations I make is what they end up buying.”

LANGUAGE OF CBD

Helpful Terms Below!

Curious about trying CBD, but don’t know what all the fancy words you’ve seen online mean? Read on below for some important terms!

2-AG – aka 2-arachidonoylglycerol, the most common endocannabinoid found in the brain.

AEA – aka anandamide, the second most common endocannabinoid found in the brain.

Broad spectrum – does not contain any THC, but contains all of the other cannabinoids found in the hemp plant.

Cannabis sativa – scientific name of the plant species that we use to grow our hemp, which is then used to make our products. This is the same plant that is used to grow marijuana as well. The important differences between hemp and marijuana are described below.

CB1R – cannabinoid receptor type 1, which is found mostly in the brain, but also in the liver, heart, and intestines.

CB2R – cannabinoid receptor type 2, which is found mostly in immune system cells, including in the intestines.

CBD – aka cannabidiol, is the second-most common phytocannabinoid. It weakly binds to and blocks CB1R and CB2R, but it is not clear if its effects on the body are through these interactions. It can also interact with other parts of the endocannabinoid system. It is the primary ingredient in our products and is thought to help treat many different diseases. It is non-addictive, does not have psychoactive effects, and does not cause people to feel “high.”

Endocannabinoid – refers to the molecules that our bodies make that can bind to receptors in the endocannabinoid system, leading to effects on the body.

Endocannabinoid system – refers to the cell signaling system in our bodies that has been shown to play a role in many different diseases, including chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, anxiety, depression, seizures, obesity and certain kinds of cancer. Fore more information, check out our endocannabinoid system post.

Full spectrum – contains all of the cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, including CBD and THC, though concentration is less than 0.3% per the law.

Hemp – cannabis that contains less than 0.3% of THC, the psychoactive phytocannabinoid. All of our products come from hemp.

Marijuana – aka weed, cannabis that contains more than 0.3% THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid. This is the kind of cannabis that has been used recreationally for decades. Our products are not made from marijuana.

Phytocannabinoid – refers to molecules that are made in plants and that can interact with the endocannabinoid system. The two most common phytocannabinoids are THC and CBD.

THC – aka tetrahydrocannabinol, is the most common phytocannabinoid and the most well-studied. It binds to and activates both CB1R and CB2R, and has many effects on the body, including stimulating appetite, causing increased body temperature, and psychoactive effects that make people feel “high.”

Tincture – plant or animal extract that is dissolved in a solution. In the case of our products, the tincture consists of hemp extract, the components of which determine whether the product is considered full spectrum or broad spectrum.

FORMULATIONS OF CBD

In this post, we’ll discuss the ways you can use CBD, as well as the three formulations of CBD oil: full spectrum (<0.3% THC), broad spectrum (THC-free), and isolate. Currently, IE offers full spectrum or broad spectrum CBD oil in our farmhouse blend, mint, and lemon tinctures.

HOW CAN I ADMINISTER CBD?

  • Sublingual – this means that it is taken in oil form under the tongue and absorbed directly into the bloodstream. This is how our tinctures should be taken.
  • Edible – this delivery method is achieved by eating products such as gummies or candy that are infused with CBD. This method isn’t as effective as sublingual or inhaling CBD because it is first processed through your digestive system before moving into your bloodstream.
  • Topical – this is the least effective delivery method, but can be used to treat specific pain spots as it is applied directly to the source of discomfort and can immediately be absorbed by the tissue surrounding where it is applied.
  • Inhalation – this delivery method can be done by smoking hemp flower, vaping, or dabbing. This method also delivers CBD directly to the bloodstream.

WHAT IS FULL SPECTRUM HEMP EXTRACT CBD OIL?

Full spectrum CBD tinctures contain all of the phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids that are found in the hemp plant, including CBD and THC. There is some thought that the full spectrum products can produce an “entourage effect,” where the different cannabinoids work together to increase the effectiveness of the products, but this has not been scientifically proven.

It’s important to note that a third party tests all of our products to ensure that the amount of THC is <0.3%, the legal limit for it in CBD oil. As with all of our products, we make these third-party lab testing results freely available to you on our product pages.

WHAT IS BROAD SPECTRUM HEMP EXTRACT CBD OIL?

Broad spectrum CBD tinctures are THC-free, but still contain CBD and all of the other minor phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Because these products contain all the natural phytocannabinoids except THC, the “entourage effect” can still happen, with a slightly different profile.

To ensure that our broad spectrum tinctures are THC-free, a third-party tests them. As with all of our products, we make these third-party lab testing results freely available to you on our product pages. If you’re concerned at all about drug tests but would still like to use our CBD tinctures, we recommend you use our broad spectrum products.

WHAT IS CBD ISOLATE?

CBD isolate is pure cannabidiol, which is closest to the pharmaceutical form of cannabidiol called Epidiolex, which is FDA-approved to treat multiple forms of pediatric seizures. We do not currently offer tinctures that contain CBD isolate. No CBD isolate from any company is the same as the FDA-approved Epidiolex.
