CBD Gummies for Flight Anxiety: The Complete Guide

CBD gummies for flight anxiety

Do CBD Gummies for Flight Anxiety Really Work?

CBD products have been increasing in popularity in recent years, and for good reason. CBD may help with a number of issues such as chronic pain and lack of quality sleep.

Some CBD users have raved that CBD has helped ease their anxiety. If you are reading this article, you may be asking yourself this question: do CBD-infused gummies really work to ease fear of air travel?

Yes, they may help calm your fear and stress related to air travel. Studies suggest that cannabidiol (CBD), the primary cannabinoid in marijuana, may have anxiolytic properties (1). More research is needed to determine the efficacy of CBD in treating fear of flying, but many individuals have reported success with using CBD-infused gummies for this purpose.

This article will help you understand what CBD-infused gummies are and how they work to manage flight induced anxiety.

What are CBD gummies?

CBD gummies
CBD gummies

One way to consume CBD is by eating CBD-infused gummies, which are like regular candy gummies except they contain CBD oil. Many people use gummies to manage travel related stress.

CBD-infused gummies come in different formulations:

  • Full-Spectrum CBD – contains all the compounds of hemp plants, including THC, terpenes, and flavonoids.
  • Broad Spectrum CBD – does not contain THC, but other compounds like flavonoids and terpenes are present.
  • Isolate CBD – This is the purest form of CBD, meaning that terpenes, flavonoids, THC, and other components are not present.

Although CBD can be extracted from both hemp and cannabis types of marijuana, only CBD extracted from hemp is legal at the federal level in the U.S. This is because unlike cannabis, hemp contains a very small 0.3 percent or less of THC. Federal law prohibits CBD oil and products containing more that 0.3 percent THC.

How much CBD should I take for flight anxiety?

The amount of CBD needed will vary from person to person. You should start with a low dose gummy and increase gradually over several days. For example, to begin with a smaller dose, you may take a smaller dose by cutting a 50-mg. gummy into halves or fourths.

For most people, calmness associated with taking CBD can be achieved with doses ranging between 10-30 mg. daily. Some individuals may require larger doses (up to 50 – 100mg) in order to feel a calm state prior to flying.

Benefits of Using CBD Infused Gummies for Flight Anxiety

An enjoyable flight
An enjoyable flight

Helps promote calm and alleviate anxiety

By interacting with your endocannabinoid system, CBD can help relax the stress response region of your brain. In turn, you may be more patient and at ease when dealing with anxiety-inducing activities at the airport like a rerouted flight or an emergency when flying.

Pain relief during flights

Pain of any kind can worsen anxiety. Gummies help you manage inflammation and pain that would otherwise make your travel challenging and unpleasant.

Traveling for many hours and sleeping on a plane or on uncomfortable mattresses can lead to body aches and pains. If this is true for you, gummies may help you manage the achiness.

In addition to the gummies, you can use CBD cream topically to target areas of muscle or joint pain, making your travel experience more comfortable.

Ease jet lag

Another benefit of CBD-infused gummies is that they may help ease jet lag.

Stress and anxiety over traveling may induce insomnia. As the CBD in the gummies provide calming effects, you may find it easier to go to sleep and stay asleep. This, in turn, helps ward off jet lag.

Other benefits of using CBD to ease your fear of flying include:

  • Easy accessibility. CBD products are easy to access online and at over-the-counter CBD pharmacies.
  • CBD oil may help with dry skin when traveling.
  • CBD pain cream can help soothe cramped, aching muscles that can occur when sitting for long periods.

Safety and effectiveness

Gummies (and other CBD items) are safe and may offer effective alternatives to prescription medications for anxiety and pain relief. A side effect of many anxiety and pain medications is that they can become addictive. CBD is not addictive, even after prolonged use.

Does CBD calm anxiety immediately?

Some people find relief from their symptoms in a short amount of time, but in most cases it may take several days or more of daily doses for the effects of CBD to be felt. The degree of calm one experiences can vary, depending on the individual and their own tolerance levels. By taking a daily gummy for several days well in advance of your trip, you will know how your body reacts and can determine how many gummies will be enough to manage travel anxiety.

It’s important to note that CBD is not a cure for anxiety but rather a way to manage the symptoms associated with it.

If you are looking for immediate calmness, there are other methods that may be more effective in the short term such as mindfulness and relaxation techniques, or talking through your worries with a therapist or support group. Consult with a medical professional before incorporating CBD into your anxiety management plan.

Ultimately, CBD may provide calm for some people, but remember to take time for yourself and explore all the options available for managing anxiety. With patience and dedication, you may be able to find calmness in many different ways.

What should I know before taking CBD Gummies for flight anxiety?

While the gummies can help manage travel anxiety, there are a few caveats you should know ahead of your trip.

Unclear rules about carrying CBD during a flight

Although CBD is easily accessible in the US, the legalities around CBD are still murky and vary from state to state. The laws regarding CBD are even more varied from country to country.

Can you take CBD edibles on an airplane?

While the legal status of CBD and other forms of cannabis can vary widely, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) allows travelers to bring certain forms of hemp-derived CBD products on the plane with them in their carry-on luggage. However, it is your responsibility to confirm that your CBD products meet TSA guidelines before attempting to travel with them; failure to do so could result in confiscation or other legal consequences. Furthermore, as some states have laws prohibiting the sale and/or possession of hemp-derived CBD, travelers should be aware that local laws may affect their ability to bring such items through airport security.

Will TSA take my CBD gummies?

TSA rules must be considered if you plan to carry gummies on a plane. According to TSA’s “What Can I Bring” website, products containing hemp-derived CBD that contain less than 0.3 percent THC are generally permissible in carry on and checked baggage.

Therefore, be sure your gummies contain no more than 0.3 percent THC and that all ingredients meet federal and TSA travel requirements. If you are bringing CBD tinctures and creams with you, they should be less than 3 ounces in volume.

With that said, possession of marijuana and certain cannabis products remains illegal under federal law even though some states allow for recreational use. TSA officers may confiscate your items even if they merely suspect a violation of federal law. The TSA will refer all suspected violations of law to the police.

If traveling abroad, you should research CBD laws in each country before you fly.

For example, many countries in Europe like Iceland, Montenegro, and Monaco do not consider CBD legal. In addition, CBD is illegal in most Asian countries, like Cambodia and Vietnam. And while a few countries in South Africa consider CBD legal, most other African countries do not.

Why you shouldn’t take them for the first time on your flight

Taking CBD for the first time on your flight is not advisable. This is because different people react to CBD differently. On long flights especially, it can be difficult to gauge how one might react if they take it for the first time in an enclosed space with few resources to manage any potential side effects or complications.

May induce anxiety

While CBD is known to provide calming effects, THC may induce anxiety or panic attacks in certain people. This means that some people may negatively react to full-spectrum CBD gummies, as they contain both THC and CBD. A broad spectrum CBD might be a better choice.

May cause drowsiness

CBD may cause drowsiness and fatigue, which could compromise safety when traveling at high altitudes with limited access to assistance.

May react adversely with other medications

CBD may interact with other medications that you may be taking. Check with your doctor before using CBD if you are taking any other medications, as it could interfere with these medications and cause adverse effects.

When Should I Use CBD Gummies for Flight Anxiety?

Days before a flight

Take daily doses at least a few days before you travel. This will help you determine how your body reacts to taking CBD oil or CBD-infused gummies as well as the most effective dose to address anxiety and pain.

During your flight

Once you know the correct dose and how your body responds, taking a gummy before your flight can help you manage your fear of flying and support a relaxing experience. You can take one right before you go through airport security to give it ample time to work.

After a flight

Jet lag is not uncommon when traveling, especially if you are on a plane for many hours. For this reason, taking a gummy after your flight can help promote promote calm, rest, and restorative sleep. This can help ease jet lag.

Tips To Remember When Carrying CBD Gummies for Flight Anxiety

Be honest with airport security personnel.
Be honest with airport security personnel.
  • Research the cannabis state laws of the particular state you are traveling to. Additionally, find out the legalities surrounding CBD products in different countries beforehand.
  • Speak to your doctor before taking gummies, especially if you are on any medications.
  • Ensure your gummies contain less than 0.3 percent THC. This is the legal limit in the U.S.
  • THC may appear on drug tests. Avoid full spectrum gummies if passing a drug test is a concern for you. Instead, use gummies containing broad spectrum CBD.
  • Do not use gummies for the first time during your flight. Although they are safe and are not known to present major negative side effects, it is always best to use them several times before your flight so you know the effects beforehand.
  • Do not attempt to hide your gummies or any CBD product from TSA officers. Instead, be upfront about them. If you have a medical marijuana license, bring it with you.
  • If you want to bring gummies containing delta 8, you should check with the airline you are using before traveling with them. Some airlines do not allow passengers to transport any form of gummies containing delta 8 or delta 9 on their aircraft. If a passenger is found to have them in their luggage or on their person during travel, airline personnel will confiscate them and may issue legal consequences.
  • Flight delays and cancellations are common and almost unavoidable. Leave adequate time in your itinerary for the unexpected to help minimize anxiety.
Air travel can be an enjoyable experience.

Which CBD Strain is Best for Anxiety?

Which CBD Strain is Best for Anxiety?

Which CBD Strain is Best for Anxiety? 12 Must-Try High CBD Strains

Let us be honest; the world has been quite an anxious place in recent years, resulting in many people using a little something to calm their nerves. In fact, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) reports that about 19.1% of the U.S. adult population suffers from anxiety disorders.

With people seeking an alternative solution to prescription medications to relieve stress and reduce anxiety, many have landed on CBD, thanks to its stress-relieving effects. Some users have also praised high-quality CBD products for improved and restful sleep.

However, as the CBD market continues to grow, it may be a tad difficult to figure out what CBD strain is best for anxiety disorders. Fortunately for you, we have curated this guide to help you get started.

How Do CBD Strains for Anxiety Work?

Before we get to this, we need to address the elephant in the room.

Yes, high CBD strains for anxiety help you relax and provide you with anxiety relief.

You may consume these strains by smoking CBD flower or using products infused with CBD. These include gummies, oils, creams, and tablets. However, more on that later.

Understanding the Endocannabinoid System

We need to explore the endocannabinoid system (ECS) found in your body to better understand how CBD interacts with it to relieve pain, stress, and anxiety.

ECS ensures different functions and processes are regulated and running smoothly. These include appetite, memory, mood, and sleep. In addition, everyone has an ECS system, whether you use cannabis or not.

ECS comprises three major components: enzymes, receptors, and endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are similar to the cannabinoids found in CBD. Your body produces endocannabinoids when needed to ensure internal processes run smoothly.

So far, only two types of endocannabinoids have been identified by experts:

  • Anandamide (AEA)
  • 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG)

Endocannabinoids bind to the endocannabinoid receptors all over your body to alert the ECS that certain processes need to take action.

  • CB1 receptors – present in the central nervous system
  • CB2 receptors – often found in the peripheral nervous system

Endocannabinoids can bind to either receptor to provide varying effects. For example, endocannabinoids may bind to CB2 receptors in the immune cells as a sign to the ECS that your body is experiencing inflammation.

Finally, two enzymes help break down the endocannabinoids once their function has been completed. These are:

  • Fatty acid amide hydrolase – breaks down AEA
  • Monoacylglycerol acid lipase – breaks down 2-AG

By regulating homeostasis, ECS helps the body recover when an outside force, say inflammation or fever, sets you off balance.

How Do CBD Strains Manage Your Anxiety Levels?

Research on how CBD reduces general and social anxiety and stress levels is ongoing. However, some experts believe CBD boosts homeostasis by preventing endocannabinoids from being broken down by enzymes.

Additional research suggests that CBD binds to an endocannabinoid receptor in your body to provide its vast benefits. It is evident that CBD strains help manage anxiety, relieve pain, and improve your sleep.

In turn, you can stay calm, relaxed, and happy. Additionally, CBD does not get you high.

What About THC Strains for Anxiety?

Unlike CBD, THC interacts with the ECS by binding to the CB1 and CB2 receptors. For this reason, THC provides a range of effects on your body and mind. Some of these include reducing pain and stimulating your appetite.

Unfortunately, high THC may have negative effects like increased anxiety and paranoia. Another disadvantage of THC is its psychoactive effects (aka, it will get you high).

So, stay clear of high THC strains when dealing with anxiety. Instead, you want to go for high CBD strains or balanced strains. This is because, in low doses, THC helps reduce anxiety.

Do Terpenes Help With Anxiety?

Terpenes are in charge of the different aromas in CBD strains. In addition, the terpene profile also determines a certain strain’s effects, whether sedating or energizing.

Some of the most common terpenes in CBD strains for anxiety include limonene, caryophyllene, and myrcene.

12 Best CBD Strains for Anxiety

Best CBD Strains for Anxiety

Cannabis strains are categorized into the following major strains: indica, sativa, and hybrid.

While the major difference between indica and sativa strains is structural, each strain will have varying effects. Indica strains are used to treat anxiety and pain management and improve your sleep since they are high in CBD.

Conversely, sativa-dominant strains are best if you want a burst of energy. Unfortunately, these strains are unsuitable for reducing anxiety since they have a high THC ratio.

Hybrid strains refer to a crossbreed of indica and sativa strains. For this reason, they may be indica-dominant or sativa-dominant strains.

If you are asking yourself what CBD strain is best for anxiety, below are the 12 best options.

  1. Harlequin

Although a sativa-dominant hybrid strain, harlequins have a CBD: THC ratio of 5:2. For this reason, it is perfect for reducing anxiety. In addition, users love that harlequin provides clear-headed alertness, allowing you to feel relaxed and not sedated.

Low THC content is also great for dealing with an anxiety disorder, as it helps you feel more relaxed and calm.

  1. Cannatonic

Cannatonic is another great high CBD strain for reducing anxiety. With a CBD content as high as 17% and less than 6% THC, this strain offers you relaxing yet uplifting qualities without any psychoactive effects of THC.

Additionally, its profile makes it among the go-to medical marijuana strains. However, you will be surprised to know that cannatonic is not as sedative as its name implies.

  1. Sour Tsunami

Sour Tsunami is also a favorite in the medical marijuana community for a good reason. This high CBD sativa-dominant strain with about 11% CBD and less than 7% THC was specifically bred by crossing NYC Diesel and Sour Diesel.

Why? For its high CBD content.

Sour Tsunami users have reported a significant decrease in anxiety and depression. Additionally, low THC levels work to provide relief from inflammation and pain.

This medicinal strain will leave you feeling relaxed and clear-headed, making it a great CBD flower for anxiety.

  1. Harle-Tsu

Created by the late Lawrence Ringo, Harle-Tsu is a hybrid cross between some of the highest CBD strains, Harlequin and Sour Tsunami. With about 11% CBD and less than 1% THC content, this hybrid strain provides strong anti-anxiety and calming effects.

However, you will not feel zoned or stoned as the strain has virtually no THC. In addition to stress and anxiety relief, users report feeling relaxed and happier.

Harle-Tsu also provides inflammation and pain relief.

  1. Canna-Tsu

As the name suggests, Canna-Tsu is a hybrid strain of Cannatonic and Sour Tsunami. It is created equal, meaning it has a 1:1 CBD/THC ratio.

This high CBD strain helps reduce high anxiety levels by offering you calming effects. Although this strain will not get you stoned, it is also not recommended for beginners with a general or social anxiety disorder.

In addition to reducing anxiety, Canna-Tsu also packs anti-inflammatory properties. This strain is suitable for day or nighttime use.

  1. Sour Space Candy

Sour Space Candy is part of the high CBD, low THC hemp strains on the CBD market. This strain is advisable for daytime use as it reduces anxiety and depression while still allowing you to focus.

If your social anxiety disorder is keeping you from social interactions, Sour Space Candy helps uplift your mood without the THC high.

  1. ACDC

Although a sativa-dominant strain, ACDC is one of the highest CBD strains that helps manage stress and anxiety. With a CBD: THC ratio of 20:1, this strain will make you feel calm, relaxed, and happy.

Additionally, ACDC does not cause any psychoactive effects. The only downside of using ACDC cannabis strain is that it causes dry mouth. However, its benefits as a medicinal strain far outweigh the disadvantages.

  1. Elektra

If you are looking for a low THC high CBD strain that reduces your anxiety, calms and relaxes you but has no high effects, then Elektra is it. This strain is particularly great for beginners and helps manage depression and anxiety.

Elektra is also great for daytime use, thanks to its CBD: THC ratio. However, keep in mind that its aroma and pungent smoke get mixed reviews from users.

  1. Ringo’s Gift

This high CBD hybrid strain is a cross between ACDC and Harle-Tsu. Users love the reduced anxiety and stress levels they experience from using this strain.

Ringo’s Gift also helps improve your sleep quality, especially if your anxiety disorder keeps you awake at night.

  1. Remedy

This 14% CBD strain gives you a calm and peaceful mellow effect without any mind or body psychoactive effects. As the name suggests, Remedy is great for stress and anxiety control, helping you enjoy calm and Zen moments.

Besides its anti-anxiety properties, Remedy is used to treat inflammation, pain, and even seizures.

  1. Trident

This CBD strain for anxiety boasts about 12% CBD and is less than 6% THC. It is a go-to strain for people looking to stay mentally focused with controlled stress and anxiety levels.

While most users report feeling relaxed from using this strain, you may experience mild psychoactive effects. For this reason, Trident is not recommended for beginners.

  1. Lifter

Lifter has 18% CBD and less than 1% THC. For this reason, it is good for managing anxiety disorders as it has uplifting effects while keeping you relaxed.

Although it has a weird “funky cheese with hints of fuel” aroma, users rave that this high CBD strain makes them happy and relieves their pain.

Things To Keep in Mind When Trying CBD for Anxiety

Things To Keep in Mind When Trying CBD for Anxiety

Although high CBD strains help manage anxiety, you will find that some of them contain some amount of THC. This is because THC (at low doses), paired with CBD and terpenes, helps ease anxiety.

Determining how any amount of THC will affect you (or anyone else) is quite challenging. Below are tips to remember when trying out the best CBD strains for anxiety.

  • Start with a low THC high CBD strain, then give it time to work before switching to a new strain.
  • Consider exploring non-smoking methods to protect your lungs. This could be by using gummies (super tasty and fun!) and oils for anxiety.
  • Avoid activities like driving for about 6 hours or more after use, especially if you are experiencing any effects.
  • Consult your health practitioner before using CBD products if you are on anti-anxiety medication.
  • Check your state’s legislation regarding legal THC and CBD levels. Remember to counter-check the same when traveling from one state to another since the legislation varies in each state.

The Best CBD Gummies For Anxiety and Stress

High-quality CBD products

The Best CBD Gummies For Anxiety and Stress

The global community is increasingly filled with anxiety and stress, so much so that one in three people in America suffers from stress and generalized anxiety disorder.

To effectively manage these issues, individuals tend to seek solutions in supplements, mindfulness, and other self-care practices.

Managing anxiety and stress can be daunting. That includes making important lifestyle changes and drug prescriptions that may have another unwarranted side effect.

As an alternative, there has been a discovery of natural ingredients that are less harmful to the body and works well with human internal systems – cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD. Opting for the best CBD gummies for anxiety and stress is one of the most popular ways to consume CBD.

CBD gummies for anxiety are sold in the isolate form, full-spectrum CBD gummies, and broad-spectrum CBD. Recently, various feedbacks have shown the efficacy of managing human stress and relieving anxiety with these high-quality CBD gummies for anxiety.

We’ll first explain what you need to know about CBD gummies.

What are CBD gummies?

CBD is a natural extract of Hemp, a non-intoxicating type of cannabis. It is a breed of many cannabinoids, a natural compound in cannabis that has beneficial effects on the human nervous system. A CBD gummy is a chewy and sweet candies blend with cannabidiol exposure.

The legality of organic Hemp in the United States has risen for CBD companies. In recent years, there have been intensive research studies on the efficacy of some hemp extracts and their general health benefits to the human body.

Even though research is still ongoing and many discoveries are expected to be made in the CBD industry, it is established that high-quality CBD product extracts are highly effective against sleeplessness, tension, inflammation, mood disorders, and stress.

Premium quality CBD products are worth your money if you are looking for a natural, convenient, and, most importantly, non-side effect way to mitigate stress and manage your persistent anxiety.

Consuming CBD gummies is one of the most effective natural ingredients and easy-to-use CBD products you can start with.

In this guide article, we will dive into the best why CBD gummies for anxiety work, how many CBD gummies you need, the possible downside of CBD, and comprehensive guides on what to look for in CBD gummies products.

How CBD gummies help with Stress and Anxiety disorders

CBD is generally safe in humans. Quite easy to dose with very minimal side effects. It does not induce undesired adverse effects.

Research is still ongoing to understand the functionality and reaction of CBD in humans. A study reveals that 5 mg of CBD is enough for persons that want to treat depression and anxiety. However, this may not be the case, especially for first-time users, as they may require up to 10 mg daily before the CBD gummies work.

Before taking any variant of premium CBD gummies, understand the type and the ingredients they are made of. In general, seek expert opinion before making a choice.

Potential Side Effects of CBD gummies

Taking CBD can lead to side effects like loss of appetite, fatigue, diarrhea, or a weight change.

Studies show that CBD can influence the medications you are taking with it. It is advised that you don’t take CBD with other drugs unless you are told to do so by your doctor.

Generally, if you experience side effects from using CBD gummies, stop using them and talk to your physician.

Types of CBD gummies for anxiety and stress

1. Full-spectrum CBD gummies

Full-spectrum CBD gummies include all of the beneficial chemicals present in full-spectrum hemp extract. Here are some of them:

Cannabinoids

CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol are just two of the more than 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis (THC). Cannabis products have medicinal and psychoactive effects due to the presence of CBD and THC. Contrary to popular belief, THC does have an intoxicating effect, whereas CBD does not.

Terpenes

There are around 150 terpenes in cannabis, each with a unique effect on the plant’s smell. It has been suggested that terpenes may have medicinal effects as well.

Flavonoids

Nearly twenty distinct flavonoids have been found in cannabis. Similarly to terpenes, flavonoids are quite medicinal; they have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective qualities, according to research published in 2016.

How Full-Spectrum CBD Gummies For Anxiety Disorders Work

Full-spectrum CBD contains a variety of cannabinoids, including CBD and THC, that both have distinct effects on the brain. Cannabinoids, in general, control the endocannabinoid system in the body. However, their precise effects are still being studied.

The full-spectrum CBD gummies tend to control the human nervous system, hence improving mood, sleep, immune systems, and inflammatory responses.

Benefits of full spectrum CBD Gummies

As you may already know, full-spectrum CBD gummies contain the complete cannabis plant compounds. This makes it more potent than other CBD gummies.

In addition to being the go-to gummies for anxiety, full-spectrum CBD gummies also offer a ton of other health benefits, which include:

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

  • Post-traumatic stress disorders

  • Muscle spasms relief

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Anti-seizure

  • Treatment

In all, there is currently no solid scientific evidence pointing to other specific health conditions that full-spectrum CBD may help treat.

2. Broad Spectrum CBD Gummies

Broad-spectrum CBD gummies contain an extract from the hemp plant, which includes all of the naturally occurring components in the plant except for the psychoactive ingredient THC.

It is the best option for individuals who are looking to avoid THC completely but want also to have the experience of organic CBD gummies.

That’s why it’s important to choose CBD brands of broad-spectrum gummies that contain not just CBD but a variety of other beneficial compounds like terpenes and flavonoids. The Innovative Extract broad spectrum CBD gummy has distinct qualities and organic ingredients that make it a beneficial food or supplement.

Benefits of Broad Spectrum CBD Gummies

CBD is a relative of the cannabinoid THC, arguably more well-known than CBD. However, even though it does not produce the “high” feeling like THC, it still positively affects a person’s health.

Even though research is still being conducted, and there are many things that we do not yet understand, there is some evidence to suggest that CBD products provide:

  • Possible relief from both physical and mental pain

  • Contains components that work to reduce inflammation

  • Could make sleeping more comfortable

  • Epilepsy patients who take this medication may experience fewer seizures

Epidiolex is the first CBD medication available on prescription that the Food and Drug Administration has given the go-ahead to treat seizures (FDA).

Additionally, there are many advantages to utilizing broad-spectrum CBD in particular. Utilizing these products may give you access to potentially useful substances, such as terpenes. Terpenes are a class of aromatic chemicals that can be discovered naturally in various plant species, including cannabis.

According to the findings of a study conducted and published in the British Journal of Pharmacology in 2011, the combination of terpenes and Phyto cannabinoids may be beneficial in treating inflammation, pain, anxiety, epilepsy, cancer, and fungal infection.

Is broad-spectrum CBD right for you?

Full-spectrum CBD may be a better option than broad-spectrum CBD if your goal is to get all of the therapeutic benefits that the cannabis plant is capable of providing. On the other hand, if you are solely interested in CBD, purchasing “CBD Isolate Gummies” can be your best option.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for a wide variety of advantages while minimizing your exposure to THC, then broad-spectrum products will probably be your best bet.

3. CBD Isolate Gummies

CBD isolate is a solid or powder consisting solely of CBD. It differs from full-spectrum CBD products, which may include up to 0.3% THC legally. A positive result for this quantity on a drug test is not indicative of an actual high, though.

THC is one of the many chemicals and other components that may be extracted from the cannabis plant through the many procedures that are used by manufacturers in the production of CBD isolate. Following the process, crystallized pure CBD is all that is left.

The crystals are often ground into a powder by the manufacturer to make the product more user-friendly. The isolated form of CBD does not have any discernible flavor or odor.

Benefits of Isolate CBD Gummies

Several research studies have found evidence that cannabidiol (CBD) can reduce anxiety. It probably achieves its effects through changes in how the brain reacts to the neurotransmitter serotonin.

For example, a study published in 2019 investigated the effects of CBD on sleep, anxiety, and both simultaneously. At a psychiatric clinic, the researchers looked at the medical records of 72 adults suffering from anxiety or trouble sleeping.

After receiving CBD treatment, the researchers discovered that 79% of the subjects reported having decreased anxiety levels. Scores on sleep quality increased for approximately 67% of persons within the first month. However, these results were inconsistent over time.

According to the study’s findings, those who suffer from anxiety disorders may benefit from CBD, and most people tolerate it well.

According to another study published in 2019, CBD considerably reduced anxiety levels in adolescents who suffered from social anxiety.

Is CBD Isolate Right For You?

According to studies, cannabidiol, or CBD, can also affect receptors other than cannabinoids. One such receptor is the 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) serotonin receptor. A molecule known as serotonin is responsible for a variety of effects, including those affecting levels of anxiety, despair, and inability to sleep. This may help explain why CBD makes some people feel less anxious and reduces their pain levels.

According to one study conducted on mice, CBD isolate may indeed provide some health benefits. However, the effects you get from using a full-spectrum CBD product can be stronger than the effects you get from using some other products.

According to the study’s findings, a particular amount of CBD isolate is required for it to be beneficial in reducing pain and edema. On the other hand, increasing the dosage of full-spectrum CBD products will continue to result in a greater intensity of the benefits.

Having said that, CBD isolate is still a viable choice for those individuals who are prohibited from having any trace of THC in their bodies and those who do not require a full-spectrum CBD medication.

It is essential to remember that even though a product is branded as “THC-free,” it may still contain sufficient amounts of the psychoactive compound to cause a person to fail a urine toxicity test. Always make sure you read both the labels and the box very carefully.

Absolutely yes. Most CBD products are legal in the US. CBD products are mostly derived from Hemp and not Marijuana. The Farm bill passed in 2018 by the US legislature affirmed the legality of CDS products.

Final Thoughts

CBD gummies are a good cure for treating anxiety and stress management. However, Intoxicating CBD gummies can lead to undesired health hazards. Do not intoxicate the intake. Also, understand that efforts are still going to ensure the best CBD gummies are continually produced. Research is still ongoing to understand more about CBD gummy potency, its effectiveness as stress relief dose, and possible side effects. Lastly, human genetics differ, discontinue using the CBD extract if it is not working for you or working, but with side effects.

CBD Strains for Sleep – Which One is the Best?

CBD Strains for Sleep - Which One is the Best

CBD Strains for Sleep – Which One is the Best?

A good night’s sleep is essential for your health and general well-being. Unfortunately, anxiety, stress, pain, and never-ending video streaming services can affect your sleep and keep you up all night.

While many people having trouble sleeping peacefully or with sleep disorders, like insomnia, reach for sleep medications, the effects are simply hard to ignore. These include over-dependence, resistance, and even addiction!

As a result, many people have turned to CBD strains for sleep and relaxation. However, not all CBD strains improve sleep.

So, this article is for you if you are looking for the best CBD products and strains for sleep. Let’s get started.

What Are CBD Strains?

CBD strains refer to different CBD varieties and how they affect your sleep quality.

But what is CBD?

CBD, cannabidiol, is among the active compounds found in hemp and marijuana plants.

CBD is often extracted and used to make CBD products like CBD gummies, tinctures, creams, and tablets. However, you can also smoke cannabis plants to benefit from CBD.

Before we delve deeper, one thing to note is that hemp and marijuana plants are scientifically different names for the same plant. They are called cannabis plants, flowering plants from the Cannabaceae family.

However, they are legally different.

How?

Hemp means cannabis plants with a THC content of less than 0.3%. On the other hand, Marijuana refers to a cannabis plant with a THC content of more than 0.3%.

In addition, marijuana is often interchangeably used with “weed” to refer to cannabis that will get you high.

Could Any CBD Strain Help With Sleep?

Cannabis strains can be largely classified into two groups, Indica and Sativa.

Indica refers to a short and bushy cannabis plant, while Sativa refers to a long and slender cannabis plant. However, other than the structural reference, each strain has different effects.

i). Indica strains

These are best for sleep aid as they have sedative effects. This is because they have a higher CBD content. However, note that this does not necessarily mean a lower THC content.

For this reason, cannabis indica will make you more calm, relaxed, and sleepy. Additionally, indica strains are used for pain management.

ii). Sativa strains

These are more energizing and give feelings of euphoria. They are best preferred when you want an energy boost. This is because they have more THC than CBD.

iii). Hybrid strains

These refer to a mix of Indica and sativa strains. However, note that these strains will have different effects depending on how the strain was made. For this reason, you may find Indica-dominant hybrids or Sativa-dominant hybrids.

However, while the Indica strain is considered the best CBD strain for sleep, the terpene profile, THC, and CBD content in a certain strain will affect efficiency in managing sleep disorders.

How Does CBD Work to Improve Your Sleep Quality?

Research has found that sleep is affected by many things, from chronic pain to stress and anxiety.

So, how does cannabis use help your sleep problems?

Your body contains an ECS (endocannabinoid system) that regulates and controls various processes. These include temperature control, learning and memory, pain control, appetite, inflammatory response, and your immune system.

In addition, the ECS system releases endocannabinoids, similar to the cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis strains.

When you take CBD for sleep regulation, the cannabinoids interact with the ECS receptors in your brain to support and boost your body’s physiological processes. This is why you will feel sedated and fall asleep faster after taking CBD products, like CBD gummies, for sleep.

CBD Vs. THC for Sleep, Which is Best?

CBD vs THC for sleep

As we mentioned in the article, CBD can be extracted from either hemp or marijuana plants. For this reason, there may be traces of THC in the CBD products, depending on where it was extracted and the type of CBD formulation.

So, How Do Different Cannabis Strains Affect Your Sleep Quality?

One study conducted in 2008 found taking cannabis strains with more THC content than CBD to be more beneficial in managing sleep disorders. This is because THC is a sedative and will decrease REM sleep(rapid eye movement) which causes dreams while you sleep.

By reducing REM sleep and dreaming less, you spend more time in deep sleep, which is more restful and restorative. This is especially true if you have PTSD since less dreaming means fewer nightmares and more restful sleep.

However, it’s important to note that REM sleep also benefits your immune system. Unfortunately, overreliance on high THC content could impair the quality of your sleep and affect your sleep cycle.

Therefore, it is safer and more beneficial to use high CBD strains for sleep management. This could be CBD products made from broad-spectrum CBD extract or infused with other essential cannabinoids, not THC, to promote deep and restorative sleep.

Hemp strains are preferred in this case since they are low THC strains.

Are There Side Effects of Using Cannabis for Sleep Aid?

Side effects of high THC strains for sleep aid include:

  • Anxiety
  • Psychoactive effects
  • Impaired memory on the next day
  • Sleepiness on the next day

Cannabis research has also shown that long-term use of THC as a sleeping aid could adversely affect your sleep and overall health. These include:

  • Taking longer to fall asleep
  • Frequent awakenings
  • Less time on deep sleep
  • Overall less sleep
  • Cannabis withdrawal effects like strange dreams
  • Reduced grey matter volume in the brain
  • Chronic bronchitis when smoked

Does A Low Dose of THC Help With Sleep?

While there’s not enough cannabis research to support THC use in managing sleep problems, a lower dose is always advisable. In addition, the legal THC content allowed in CBD products is 0.3 % or less.

This means that most of the CBD gummies and tinctures for sleep you will find in the market will either be broad-spectrum CBD(aka THC-free) or full-spectrum CBD( less than 0.3% THC content).

What Are the Best CBD Strains for Sleep

Finding the best CBD strains is not a walk in the park, especially for beginners. Ideally, you want to go for Indica strains or Indica dominant hybrids with a more CBD and low THC content or a well-balanced CBD to THC ratio.

Below are the best CBD-dominant strains for insomnia and other sleep disorders.

  1. Harlequin

Harlequin is among the most popular strains with a 5:2 CBD:THC ratio. It provides you with a clear-headed and alert state of mind without making you drowsy. However, you will experience mild euphoria.

Harlequin helps manage pain and anxiety. In addition, most users find that it enhances whatever activities they are engaged in.

  1. Ringo’s Gift

With a 13:1 CBD:THC ratio, Ringo’s Gift soothes and helps you relax without presenting a sedative effect. For this reason, it is used to alleviate pain and manage anxiety, PTSD, and migraines.

Ringo’s Gift, a hybrid cross of ACDC and Harle-Tsu strains, can also be found in strains as high as 24:1. Additionally, its notes range from spice and mint to citrus and pine.

  1. Harle-Tsu

Harle-Tsu is a cross between Harlequin and Sour Tsunami, both on this list. The CBD dominant strain boasts a CBD:THC ratio of 20:1. However, remember that this ratio varies depending on the season and the grower.

Most users love this CBD strain because it manages inflammation and relieves chronic pain. Additionally, its earthy notes with hints of pine and pepper combined with its subtle sweetness make it even more pleasant.

  1. Cannatonic

Unlike the name suggests, this 2:1 CBD:THC strain will not leave you feeling sedated. Quite the contrary, Cannatonic helps you relax and unwind while providing a mellow high.

Cannatonic is often considered a medical strain and helps users treat migraines. Other benefits you can get from this strain include managing anxiety and chronic pain(all resulting in a good night’s sleep).

In fact, some users claim that the pain melts away in about 10 minutes of using this CBD strain.

  1. Sour Tsunami

Last on our list is Sour Tsunami. This strain has a CBD:THC ratio of about 3:1, making it perfect for managing inflammation and alleviating pain without the high caused by THC.

Sour Tsunami is popular among users looking to reap the medicinal benefits of high CBD without getting high! Additionally, its scent is similar to diesel but with sweet undertones, thanks to its cross between NYC Diesel and Sour Diesel strains.

What is the Best Way to Use CBD Strains for Sleep?

CBD gummies for sleep

CBD strains come in various forms. These include gummies, tinctures, oils, creams, tablets, and pre-rolls. For this reason, each form will take a different time before you can experience the CBD benefits.

Below are a few ways to use CBD hemp flowers for sleep aid.

i). Sublingual – This method involves placing CBD oils and tinctures under the tongue, where they are absorbed into your bloodstream.

It is preferable if you want to experience CBD flower benefits fast or simply don’t like smoking.

ii). Edible – This delivery method allows you to chew CBD-infused candies or gummies. It is perfect for beginners trying out CBD products.

Have we mentioned that CBD gummies are super tasty?

Unfortunately, edibles take longer to provide you with CBD benefits. This is because the CBD gummies need to be first processed(hello digestive system) and then absorbed into the bloodstream.

iii). Topical – Topical CBD treatments are used to target specific areas causing you pain or discomfort. Once applied to the skin, the CBD is immediately absorbed by surrounding tissue to provide you relief.

This method is also the least effective compared to using tinctures, smoking, or eating an edible.

iv). Inhalation – This method delivers CBD directly to the bloodstream. This can be by smoking the CBD hemp flower, dabbing, or vaping.

Different CBD delivery methods will have varying bioavailability(how much THC will reach your bloodstream). For example, inhalation provides the highest bioavailability since THC is directly absorbed.

Conversely, edibles have the least bioavailability since some THC is lost during the digestive process.

When Should You Take CBD for Sleep?

Different CBD formulations will take different times to affect you. For this reason, it is important to time when you take CBD strains for insomnia with your bedtime.

Edibles are a good starting point in this case. Although they take longer to kick in, they also last longer in your system.

This means you can take a CBD gummy about 40 minutes to an hour before bedtime and stay asleep longer while the CBD is still in your bloodstream.

However, keep in mind that everyone’s metabolism is different. While it may take some people shorter to feel the sedative effects of cannabis strains, it may take others longer.

Conclusion

Suffering from a sleep disorder can have adverse effects on your health and wellness. These effects include fatigue, stress, low productivity levels, and unhappiness.

Many cannabis users have reported relief from pain and improved sleep. However, there is still a lot of debate between CBD and THC and which is best for insomnia patients.

Unfortunately, although a sedative, you may find that THC causes you to be more anxious or paranoid. In this case, CBD strains with a low THC content will be best for you. In addition, CBD has fewer side effects, making it a great option for pain relief, anxiety, and sleep.

The Ultimate Buying Guide: CBD Gummies For Pain Relief and Management

CBD Gummies for Pain

The Ultimate Buying Guide: CBD Gummies For Pain Relief and Management

In the last few years, CBD gummies have risen in popularity, with many people raving about the numerous benefits of using these supplements. This is because for many, CBD relieves pain, stress, and anxiety, among its other vast benefits.

Besides being tasty and good for your well-being, CBD gummies and other CBD products, like tinctures, creams, and tablets, are recommended if you prefer to use natural products for anxiety, stress, and pain relief.

However, with the increase in popularity, the CBD market has also immensely grown. In turn, this has made finding the best CBD gummies for pain management quite challenging.

Fortunately for you, we are here to help. This article will show you why and how CBD-infused gummies help alleviate pain, especially if you do not want to use conventional treatments.

Transparency is our core value here at Innovative Extracts, so we will share the benefits and side effects of using CBD gummies. In addition, we will guide you on how to choose the best CBD gummies for your needs.

So, let’s get started.

What are CBD Gummies?

Innovative Extracts CBD Gummies - 25mg

Imagine your favorite gummy candy, but with CBD. CBD gummies are chewable edibles containing cannabidiol(CBD) derived from the hemp plant.

The cannabidiol is extracted from hemp, a cannabis plant, then infused into different products to make CBD gummies, tinctures, creams, and capsules. In addition, our CBD gummies for pain management contain added artificial and natural ingredients, adding to the numerous benefits.

CBD gummies are great for anyone dealing with pain, be it from working out or soothing chronic pain from specific health conditions. Additionally, they are perfect for beginners who want to try CBD products.

How do CBD Gummies Work for Pain Relief?

Who’s up for a science class? Don’t worry, it won’t be like high school.

CBD gummies interact with the ECS (endocannabinoid system) in your body to provide relief from pain, stress, and anxiety.

So, how does this happen?

Cannabidiol is one of the many components (also known as cannabinoids) found in the cannabis plant. In fact, it is the second common active ingredient. However, it is important to note that CBD is not the same as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which gives the “entourage or high effect.”

The endocannabinoid system in your body contains cannabinoid receptors that help regulate your body’s physiological processes, like sleeping and controlling pain.

So when you consume CBD-infused gummies, CBD interacts with receptors in your endocannabinoid system to boost the natural mechanisms for inflammation and pain relief. As a result, many people feel happy, relaxed, and pain-free!

How Long do CBD Gummies Take to Help with Pain?

Since CBD gummies are edible products, they will take about 30 minutes to provide relief from pain. This is unlike other fast CBD administration methods like sublingual and inhalation. In addition, the effects will last up to about 4-6 hours.

However, this will greatly vary depending on your body composition and the brand of CBD gummies.

What are the Benefits and Side Effects of CBD Gummies?

Numerous studies have been done on the effectiveness of CBD in reducing pain, among other health benefits. For example, one research found CBD to be potentially be a natural solution for managing daily pain.

However, despite promising results from animal studies, some experts still argue that there’s not enough evidence to support the use of CBD gummies for pain management.

That said, cannabis has been long used for its medical benefits. There is also overwhelming anecdotal evidence from users of CBD products supporting its therapeutic effects. However, it’s important to ensure you are using high-quality CBD products in the right dosage, as you will see below.

Some of the benefits you can experience from CBD gummies include:

  • Relief from pain and inflammation in arthritis patients
  • Relief from neuropathic pain
  • Analgesic benefits
  • Anti-inflammatory properties

Besides relief from pain, our CBD gummies will also help you with:

  • Relaxation
  • Improved sleep
  • Stress management

Just like any other medicine or supplement, there are potential side effects of using CBD products. These include:

  • Irritability
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry-mouth
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea

However, note that these effects are mild and rare and will vary from one person to another and by dosage.

It is also important to know that CBD use may increase the blood-thinning level in your body. For this reason, it’s vital that you talk to your doctor if you are on other medications and wish to try out CBD gummies for pain relief.

How Many CBD Gummies Should I Take for Pain?

This is a popular question that has many, many answers! Here’s why.

Some studies have found that the human body can tolerate up to 1500mg of CBD to alleviate chronic pain. However, chances are you don’t need that much. So, we recommend starting small and working your way up when getting started with CBD gummies.

Depending on where you buy CBD gummies, you will find some CBD gummy brands with about 10-30mg per gummy. However, some people will require higher concentrations to experience relief.

This means consuming more CBD gummies per serving or choosing the best CBD gummies with a higher concentration. Unfortunately, this only proves that there’s no standard dose for CBD edibles and other products.

A good rule of thumb is going for about 3-4mg per 10 pounds of body weight. This comes to about 20-40mg per day. Fortunately, we’ve done the math for you – our CBD gummies for pain management contain 25mg per gummy, making them perfect for beginners.

How to Choose the Overall Best CBD Infused Gummies for Pain Management

Now that we’ve shown you that CBD gummies are safe and provide numerous therapeutic benefits, the challenging part is choosing pure and high-quality CBD gummies. This is because there are many CBD gummy brands out there on the CBD market.

Ideally, you want to ensure you buy from a reputable brand and double-check the included ingredients. Below are things to consider when buying CBD gummies for pain relief.

  1. Source and Extraction Method

The first consideration when choosing the best CBD gummies for aches and pains is the source and method of extraction. This means checking whether the hemp has been grown on U.S. farms.

The extraction method will also highly affect the CBD quality. What extraction methods are being used? This is important because high-quality hemp will not produce powerful CBD if poor extraction processes have been used.

  1. CBD Type

Another factor to consider when choosing a CBD gummy brand is the CBD type or concentration. CBD products are available in three formulations or types; full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate. Let us look at each type below.

  • Full Spectrum CBD – Full spectrum CBD gummies for pain and aches contain all the cannabinoids naturally occurring in the hemp plant. These include phytocannabinoids like THC, terpenes, and flavonoids.*Full spectrum CBD gummies contain less than 0.3% THC, the legal limit in CBD oils.
  • Broad Spectrum CBD – Broad spectrum CBD gummies do not contain THC. However, you will find other phytocannabinoids, flavanoids, and terpenes present.
  • CBD Isolate – CBD isolate means that no other components are present. This is only CBD in its purest form.

It is important to note that full and broad-spectrum CBD products are more effective than those made from CBD isolate. This is because the compounds present in the former work together to increase the effectiveness and benefits.

Will you experience the “entourage effect” after consuming CBD gummies from full and broad-spectrum CBD extract? Most likely not since the THC amounts present are not enough to get you “high,” but again, everyone is different. Again, that’s why we recommend you start with a smaller dose of CBD gummies and work your way up.

  1. CBD Concentration

This is the concentration of CBD in milligrams(mg) per serving. The higher the concentration, the more mg per serving.

For example, our vegan CBD gummies contain 25mg per gummy, while our full spectrum CBD tincture contains 100mg CBD/ml. Either way, be sure to check the product labels when purchasing CBD products.

  1. Ingredients Used to Make CBD Gummies

This involves looking at ingredients other than the CBD used to make the gummies. These include things like oils, artificial flavors and colors, and organic ingredients used to boost your body’s overall health and wellness.

When shopping for CBD gummies, you should always read the ingredient label. Ideally, you want to ensure that safe ingredients have been used in the manufacturing process. In turn, this helps to prevent adverse effects as your body can react to toxic and unhealthy ingredients.

  1. Product Testing for Safety and Quality

Product safety goes hand in hand with the ingredients used, hemp sources, and extraction processes. Therefore, you want to choose brands that grow their hemp in eco-conscious farms and apply safe practices throughout the growing and extraction processes.

Another thing to focus on here is third-party lab testing. Third-party lab tests are crucial as they confirm the safety practices and formulations of CBD products. For this reason, you will find lab test results for each product readily available on our product pages.

  1. Transparency

Transparency is very important for brands dealing with CBD wellness products. This ensures that you, the buyer, have all information about the hemp sources, extraction processes, and practices.

Transparent companies, like Innovative Extracts, ensure that you are part of their journey by sharing these essential processes with you.

  1. Brand Reputation

Similar to transparency, you should not overlook the brand reputation when shopping for CBD wellness gummies. This could be looking at the customer reviews (we get into this in detail below), the information provided, the quality of service, and the quality of products.

  1. Customer Service and Accessibility

Customer service is very crucial when choosing which CBD gummies for pain to buy, especially if it’s your first time. You want to buy from a reliable brand that will be there for you if and when you need after-sale services.

Another factor to consider here is accessibility. Although there is almost a saturation of CBD product brands on the market, most do not stand the test of time. So, ensure you buy from a reliable brand since you may need the same products in the long run.

  1. Customer Reviews

Checking customer reviews is a great way to gauge past customers’ perceptions of the CBD gummies for pain and other products. Here, you will learn the health impact the wellness gummies have had on other users, the effects, and also the brand’s quality of service.

The customer reviews section will also inform you about quality issues like unsealed products, the wrong number of gummies in the packaging, and other frustrating issues for buyers.

  1. Price

Some CBD gummies for pain and aches are relatively well-priced, while others are more expensive. One thing to note is that a high price does not always translate to high-quality gummies.

Instead, you want to choose CBD edibles priced within your range, especially if you’ll regularly use the gummies for pain management. In addition, you want to ensure you don’t compromise on quality by choosing the cheapest CBD products on the market.

Your Journey to Choosing the Best CBD Gummies

Although there still exists debates around using CBD gummies and related products in pain management, anecdotal and scientific research has shown CBD’s efficiency in relieving inflammation and pain.

Some CBD products you can use to alleviate mild or chronic pain include CBD oil, gummies, tinctures, capsules, and creams. However, most people prefer CBD gummies as they are tasty and their effects last longer.

That said, there are several factors to consider before going this route, especially if you will be taking CBD gummies for the first time. The factors discussed above help ensure the safety of the CBD gummies for your overall health and wellness.

CBD DOSING: HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I TAKE?

In this post, we’ll share our suggestions for how to start using CBD and how to adjust the dose of it. As you’ll read below, we want to emphasize that this post is meant to provide you with information that can help you make informed decisions about using CBD.

IS IT SAFE FOR ME TO START USING CBD?

The available medical literature suggests that CBD is safe for most people to use and we take the utmost care to ensure that our products are of the highest quality. That being said, we recommend that you discuss starting CBD with your doctor before doing so, especially if you’ve ever been advised to monitor the amount of grapefruit juice that you drink. This is especially important before starting to use our tinctures, which are the strongest of our products in terms of how much your body absorbs. Our creams are not as strong as tinctures since they are absorbed through the skin and they tend to act directly on the area they are applied to. Finally, our gummies contain 25 mg of CBD, which is a small amount.

WHAT DOSE OF THE CBD TINCTURE SHOULD I TAKE?

Currently, there is no recommended daily limit for CBD. Finding the right dosage that works for you is more of an art than a science. Our regular-strength tinctures contain 33 mg CBD per 1ml dropper. A reasonable starting point is to take 3-4 mg per 10 pounds of body weight daily. For example, a 150-pound person would take 45-60 mg per day to start. You can adjust up or down from here depending on your desired results. CBD has been found safe in doses in excess of 1,500 mg/day so experimenting in smaller doses is safe for most people to do. We find that most of our customers settle in on a normal dose of about 33mg to 66mg per day.

HOW SHOULD I ADJUST THE DOSE OF CBD THAT I TAKE?

In the clinical trials that studied Epidiolex, a medical-grade cannabidiol isolate, doses were increased by 2.25 mg per pound (5 mg/kg) after one week, and then by 1.13 mg per pound (2.5 mg/kg) per week until the target dose was reached. Since our tinctures are not medical-grade, it’s hard to say exactly how to increase the dose, but you can use the estimates above as a general rule of thumb.

WHAT ARE THESE SUGGESTIONS BASED ON?

We base our suggestions on a combination of expert opinion and the best and most recently available medical literature.

Recently, a medical-grade cannabidiol isolate called Epidiolex was approved by the FDA to treat three forms of seizure disorders in children – Dravet Syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis. For these conditions, doses for children without liver issues start at 5 mg per kg of body weight per day. The doses are gradually increased, as described above, to a maximum dose of 20 mg per kg of body mass per day in Dravet Syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and 25 mg per kg of body mass per day in tuberous sclerosis.

ARE IE’S TINCTURES AND OTHER PRODUCTS CLASSIFIED AS MEDICAL PRODUCTS?

We want to emphasize that our products are not FDA-approved medical treatments and should not be taken as such. We are providing this information about dosing and Epidiolex because it is the most robust source of data about pharmaceutical-grade cannabidiol and we want you to be well-informed! Lastly, our tinctures are also not currently offered in pure CBD isolate formulations. This means that they contain other cannabinoids and not just CBD compared to Epidiolex, which is pure CBD.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Consult your physician prior to use if you are pregnant, nursing or using other medications.

CBD AND SEIZURES

In this piece, we’ll highlight the latest research findings about the use of pharmaceutical-grade cannabidiol (CBD) to treat seizures. To be clear, Innovative Extracts hemp extract tinctures contain CBD and other cannabinoids, but are not pharmaceutical-grade products. With that being said, we want to provide you with the best information possible about cutting-edge research on the topic.

CAN CBD BE USED TO TREAT SEIZURES IN CHILDREN?

Epidiolex, a pharmaceutical-grade form of pure cannabidiol, has been approved to treat three different diseases that cause seizures in children. The medication has been shown in multiple randomized control trials, the gold standard in drug development, to significantly decrease the number of seizures in children affected by Lennox-Gastaut syndromeDravet syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis complex. In these studies, children who received Epidiolex had a 17-25% decrease in the number of seizures they experienced. A small percentage of children in each study even became seizure-free on the medication. Importantly, in all of the trials, the medication was used in addition to the children’s other anti-seizure medications, not as a replacement for those medications.

The FDA approval of Epidiolex is very exciting because it marks the first time that cannabidiol was approved to treat a specific medical condition. Researchers are currently looking into whether the medication could be used to treat other forms of seizures or other medical conditions.

CAN CBD BE USED TO TREAT SEIZURES IN ADULTS?

This is still an active area of research, and there is no FDA-approved CBD treatment for seizures in adults. That being said, there were some young adults (ages 18-30 years old) included in one study investigating the effect of pharmaceutical-grade CBD on seizures. In this study, there was about a 33% decrease in overall seizure frequency in people who took Epidiolex in addition to their usual seizure medications. This study was not controlled as well as the randomized trials described above, which makes its results potentially less helpful than others. Overall, this finding is encouraging, but not a definitive answer to the question of whether or not CBD can treat seizures in adults. If you’re considering using CBD to help decrease your own or a loved one’s seizures, we recommend you first have a discussion with your or their doctor about the potential risks and benefits of doing so.

CAN CBD BE USED TO TREAT SEIZURES IN DOGS?

This is still an active area of research. So far, there has been one small randomized control trial investigating the use of CBD to prevent seizures in dogs. In this study, dogs with seizures received 2.5 mg/kg “CBD-infused oil” twice daily for 12 weeks plus their regular anti-seizure medications. The dogs receiving CBD had a 33% decrease in how often they had seizures compared to the dogs that did not receive CBD, a statistically significant result. But, a similar number of dogs in both the control (placebo) and experimental (CBD) group met the study definition of “responders,” a confusing result. It’s not entirely clear why this happened, but it could be that the dose of CBD used wasn’t high enough or that the study wasn’t large enough to detect this difference. Overall, the decrease in seizure frequency is an encouraging result, but there is more work to do to prove the effects of CBD in treating seizures in dogs. If you are considering using CBD to help with your dog’s seizures, we recommend you first have a discussion with your veterinarian about the potential risks and benefits of doing so.

HOW DOES CBD PREVENT SEIZURES?

Scientists are actively working to determine how pharmaceutical-grade CBD prevents seizures. Generally speaking, seizures happen due to overactivation of the parts of the nervous system in the brain, so it is likely that CBD impacts the activity of the nervous system. However, this is an active area of research and it is not clear yet how exactly CBD works to prevent seizures.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP EXTRACT OIL FROM INNOVATIVE EXTRACTS AND PHARMACEUTICAL-GRADE CBD?

At Innovative Extracts, all of our products are third-party tested to ensure they are of the highest quality. We even publish a breakdown of the various compounds found in our products to give you access to this important information. Additionally, our tinctures are either full spectrum, which includes <0.3% THC, or broad spectrum, which is THC-free. While the main ingredient in both full spectrum and broad spectrum tinctures is cannabidiol, there are also other naturally-occurring phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids in them. We believe the cannabinoid profile in our products is superior to others and enhances their effectiveness by allowing the different compounds to work together to achieve the “entourage effect.” Currently, we do not offer a product containing CBD isolate.

Pharmaceutical-grade CBD is pure cannabidiol isolate. Because it is used for a specific medical purpose, it is subject to even stricter regulations from the FDA. The only pharmaceutical-grade CBD on the market is called Epidiolex, which is prescribed by doctors to treat severe forms of childhood epilepsy, described above.

WHAT DOSE OF HEMP EXTRACT OIL SHOULD I USE?

Currently, there is no recommended daily limit for CBD. Finding the right dosage that works for you is more of an art than a science. Our tinctures contain 33 mg CBD per 1ml dropper. A good starting point is to take 3-4 mg per 10 lbs of body weight daily. For example, a 150 lb person would take 45-60 mg per day to start. You can adjust up or down from here depending on your desired results. CBD has been found safe in doses in excess of 1,500 mg/day so experimenting in smaller doses is safe for most people to do.

For more information about dosing, check out CBD dosing post.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS FROM USING HEMP EXTRACT OIL?

We haven’t heard many complaints from customers who use our products regarding side effects, but if you experience any, please let us know! We do know that CBD can interact with the way your body breaks down certain medications, so we think it’s a good idea to have a conversation with your doctor before you start using our products, especially if you have any issues with your liver or if you’ve been told to be careful about the amount of grapefruit juice you drink.

As for pharmaceutical-grade CBD, reported side effects include diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, fever, and decreased appetite. Some children also experienced abnormalities in their liver function tests.

CBD FOR STRESS AND ANXIETY

If you struggle with anxiety, you’re not alone. According to a study by the National Institute of Mental Health, anxiety disorders are the most prominent mental health conditions in the United States, affecting an estimated 31.1% of U.S. adults.

It’s normal to feel anxious about big life moments like moving, starting a new job, or getting married. Ordinary anxiety is a normal and often healthy emotion. However, if the feeling of fear starts to interfere with your daily life, relationships, and physical health, it has the potential to become a much bigger problem. If you’re looking for ways to relax and unwind, CBD may be a great option for you.

MANAGING ANXIETY

In the last few years, CBD has been touted as a treatment for a number of medical conditions, including cancer, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. While it’s still unclear how CBD treats anxiety, some research has shown that it may help due to its positive effect on serotonin receptors in the brain.

Serotonin, or the happy chemical as it’s sometimes called, plays a role in your mood, sleep, digestion, and behavior all of which can affect your overall happiness and well-being. Researchers have found that increasing serotonin levels can help treat anxiety. Certain medications, like antidepressants, work by regulating serotonin levels, and some studies suggest that CBD may work in a similar way.

FIGHTING DEPRESSION

There is some evidence to suggest that CBD may help improve depression, but more research is needed to say for sure. There have been several studies in the last decade, but most of them were done using animals. That means the potential benefits of CBD for depression is mostly anecdotal. Still, researchers think that CBD may treat depression and anxiety in the same way — by altering serotonin levels in the brain. While CBD may help with depression, it may also interfere with other medications, so it’s best to talk with your doctor before trying it.

REDUCING STRESS

2017 Gallup poll found eight in 10 Americans are affected by stress. While stress is not a psychiatric diagnosis, it’s closely tied to your mental health in several ways. If you have trouble managing feelings of stress, you may eventually develop a mental illness like anxiety or depression. Chronic stress can also lead to more serious health issues like high blood pressure, chest pain and heart palpitations.

survey by the Arthritis Foundation found people who have used or are currently using CBD report improvements in their mental and emotional well-being. Studies have shown that CBD can also help boost cognitive brain function while improving your mood, allowing you to focus on managing your stress in a healthy and productive way.

WHAT DOSE SHOULD I TAKE?

If you want to try CBD for anxiety or depression, talk with your doctor. There aren’t any guidelines on the dosage of CBD you should use for either mental health condition, but your healthcare provider can help you figure out a starting dose that’s right for you. When it comes to how to take it, the decision is yours. There are many different forms you can choose from including CBD oil and gummies

CBD FOR SLEEP

Getting a good night’s sleep can feel great and plays a significant role in your overall health and wellbeing. Doctors recommend that adults get between seven to nine hours of sleep each night. A good night’s rest should leave you feeling refreshed and ready to begin the day. Sound sleep can also help strengthen your memory, help with muscle recovery, and boost your immunity.

Unfortunately, falling asleep or staying asleep can be a challenge for many sleepers. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), roughly 70 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep problems. Not getting enough sleep on a regular basis can have serious health consequences including an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Possible solutions for better sleep may include improved sleep hygiene, prescription sleep aids, and natural sleep aids – like CBD.

A 2019 Consumer Reports survey found about 10 percent of Americans who reported trying CBD said they used it to help them sleep – and a majority of those people said it worked.

Other research suggests that CBD may also affect sleep by interacting with the receptors in the brain that help regulate our body’s daily sleep and wake cycles.

CBD AND SLEEP DISORDERS

Research into the effects CBD has on sleep is ongoing, but initial studies suggest CBD can help with a number of sleep disorders including insomnia and excessive daytime sleepiness disorder

ANXIETY

One way CBD may help with sleep is by easing anxiety. While it’s not classified as a sleep disorder itself, anxiety can contribute to poor sleep quality and insufficient sleep. Because CBD has a calming effect on the nervous system, early research suggests that CBD can be used to treat anxiety-related disorders. Given the evidence for CBD’s ability to ease anxiety, it’s possible that CBD may also help with anxiety associated with insomnia.

INSOMNIA

People who suffer from insomnia struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep at night. This disorder can adversly affect daytime wakefulness, concentration, and perhaps most importantly – your mood. A study of CBD use in people with diagnosed insomnia is underway. The findings will give more insight into the effects CBD has on insomnia.

DAYTIME SLEEPINESS

Another common sleep disorder is excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). People who have EDS struggle to stay awake during daylight hours. The urge to fall asleep during the day may be for a variety of reasons including certain medications, various medical conditions, mental health disorders, and other sleep disorders.

Research on cannabinoids and EDS is limited, but initial research indicates the potential role of CBD in managing wakefulness. Further research is needed to determine what doses and methods work best.

SHOULD YOU TRY CBD FOR SLEEP?

If you want to give CBD for sleep a try, here are a few things to consider:

Higher doses may work better — There’s not a lot of research on dosing, but preliminary studies suggest that low doses might not be effective. A 2004 study found that low doses didn’t help people fall asleep and may have actually made people more alert. Research suggests that low doses of CBD stimulate the mind, while higher doses are more sedating.

Consider the form — Many types of CBD products are available and have the potential to help with sleep. While vaping CBD may work faster, tinctures and edibles such as CBD gummies might help you sleep longer, because they will release the CBD much slower.

Ask for advice — If other sleep remedies haven’t worked for you, talk with your doctor – especially if you take other medications. Your healthcare provider should know about all of the drugs and supplements that you take in order to best manage your overall care.

THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM

WHAT IS THE ENDOCANNABINOID (END-O-CAN-NAB-IN-OID) SYSTEM?

The short answer is, it’s complicated! The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is one of many cell signaling systems in our bodies that coordinate communication between different cells and body parts. When working properly, these signaling systems keep us happy and healthy and control many important processes in our bodies. More specifically, endocannabinoid is short for endogenous cannabinoid, which basically means cannabinoids that our bodies make. Scientists are actively studying and learning more about this system all of the time.

So far, scientists think that these molecules likely play a role in protecting against or helping improve many different problems, including chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, anxiety, depression, seizures, rheumatoid arthritis, and certain kinds of cancer. They also think that this system plays a role in changing activity in the immune system to help decrease inflammation in the body. Most of what we know about this system comes from studying animal models like mice, which are obviously different from humans. But, scientists are confident that they will be able to apply some of what they have learned from mice to us!

The main endocannabinoids are 2-AG and AEA, but we’re learning that there are many others that may also have effects on the body. These endocannabinoids can bind to the receptors, CB1R and CB2R. CB1R is found mostly in neurons, which are cells of the nervous system. CB2R is found mostly in immune system cells, but is also found in some neurons. It’s important to note that these receptors are also found in cells of other organs of the body, including the liver, heart, and intestines, which is likely why the endocannabinoid system plays a role in many different diseases.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Generally speaking, signaling systems in your body work like this. In cells, specific molecules are released in response to a triggering mechanism. Those molecules then bind to receptors in the same or other cells, which lead to more chemical reactions. Those chemical reactions in individual cells eventually lead to a bigger outcome in the body, like your heart beating or you moving your arm. Pretty cool, right?

The endocannabinoid system works similarly. In response to increased calcium, cells in the nervous system called neurons produce the endogenous cannabinoids, 2-AG, and AEA. 2-AG can bind to both CB1R and CB2R, while AEA only binds CB1R. These cannabinoids get released from the neuron, bind to their receptors on nearby neurons, and generally decrease activity in the nervous system. This is likely what leads to their effects in the body on relaxation and pain.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ENDOCANNABINOID AND A PHYTOCANNABINOID?

“Endo” is short for endogenous, so an endocannabinoid is one that is produced within the body. “Phyto” is Greek for plant, so a phytocannabinoid is one that is found in plants.

HOW DOES CBD WORK WITH THIS SYSTEM?

Scientists are still figuring this out! Cannabidiol, aka CBD, doesn’t bind as strongly to CB1R or CB2R as THC, and when it does, CBD usually blocks these receptors. CBD clearly doesn’t work by the same mechanism described above, but we have learned that CBD binds to other receptors in the endocannabinoid system and changes neuron activity, which likely leads to its many effects on the body. CBD can also change the activity of cells in the immune system. Unlike THC, CBD does not have psychoactive effects, so it doesn’t get you “high.”

HOW DOES THC WORK WITH THIS SYSTEM?

Tetrahydrocannabinol, THC, binds CB1R and CB2R. When it does, THC activates these receptors, which leads to its many effects on the body, including the psychoactive ones that cause you to feel “high.”

CBD FOR FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION

Having a short attention span or not being able to stay focused during work or school is something we can all relate to. Not being able to concentrate can be frustrating and discouraging. One of the biggest causes of reduced productivity is the many distractions we have to deal with on a daily basis. Whatever you’re working on, CBD can help.

BENEFITS OF USING CBD FOR FOCUS

Cannabidiol (CBD) is an active compound found in cannabis plants. One of the key benefits of CBD is that it triggers the production of your body’s naturally occurring endocannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) ensures overall wellness by regulating your immune response, memory, movements, and other essential body functions. CBD can also reduce stress and improve your mood. The better you feel, the more productive you will be.

OPTIMISM IS HEALTHY

A positive outlook can motivate you to get things done and give you a feeling of accomplishment when you cross tasks off your to do list. Being optimistic and expecting the best possible outcome in any situation can also help you feel more confident when making decisions allowing you to be more productive. It can also be beneficial for your overall health. One study of more than 2,000 older adults evaluated the link between optimism and overall health. Researchers found people who had a positive outlook were more likely to stay healthy.

CALM PHYSICAL TICS

Do you click your pen or tap your leg when you’re trying to work? These physical tics may be a sign of stress which can prevent you from concentrating on tasks. Using CBD can help calm erratic impulses. When your body is relaxed, you have one less thing competing for your attention.

REDUCE STRESS AND ANXIETY

If you’re feeling anxious or stressed, trying to focus on anything feels damn near impossible. Stress can also negatively affect your mental health and decision making which can lead to faster mental and emotional burnout. Using CBD can help boost cognitive brain function while improving your mood and memory so you can focus on what’s important.

STAY ALERT

Many people start their mornings with a cup of coffee or to stay alert, but consuming too much caffeine can make you feel jittery or jumpy. When you’ve got a caffeine buzz, concentrating is difficult, and you are more likely to make mistakes. Mixing CBD oil into your coffee can lessen the side effects of caffeine, helping you to stay alert, but without the jitters. If you’re not a coffee drinker, there are a variety of CBD teas available, too.
